International Women’s Day Celebration on March 5 at the International Center of Yale

‘Round-the-World Women will take part in the celebration of the International Women’s Day at the International Center Cafe on Thursday, March 5, 2009 from 7 to 9 pm. There we will provide an International Appetizer Buffet to enjoy during a mix of performances. The Cafe is in the International Center for Yale Students & Scholars on 421 Temple Street in New Haven. Spring Program 2009

Program/Nursery…………………….9:30 - 11:30 A.M
(9:30 - 10:00 socializing with coffee, tea and cake. If not otherwise indicated the program will start promptly at 10 A.M.)

**Indicates a trip away from the meeting place. Transportation will be available from the church promptly at 9:30 A.M. Children must remain in the nursery if not otherwise indicated.

January 27 Presentation on Israel. Hear about facts, geography, history and recent developments from our Israeli member. 

February 3 Introduction to Japanese calligraphy. Let’s have fun to write your wish or aspiration for the New Year with SUMI ink and learn about Japanese letters and Chinese influences.

February 10 This week is Valentine’s Day! Play games, listen to romantic stories and make cute handmade cards for your love ones.

February 17 Favorite movies. We will be talking about the movie culture in the States, sharing the different ways of seeing movies, for example, cinemas, Netflix, blockbuster, cable+TV, libraries and internet sites. We will also show clips of our favorite movies of all time and there will be an opportunity for discussion about films from other countries.

February 24 Piano and Violin Concert. Two of our members will enchant us with their wonderful music.

March 3 Living with the Holocaust in a Democracy: One of our members will show how history and the memory of the Holocaust in Germany have influenced historical developments, questions of national self-identification, identity and democracy. She will also give some details about the national German memorial to the Jewish victims of the Holocaust that is now located in the heart of the German capital Berlin.

March 10 Chile and Salsa. Our member is going to talk about her country: Chile. Together with another member she will show us how to dance salsa, so bring comfortable shoes!!!

March 17 Women’s rights in different cultures. Come to listen about women’s rights and their involvement in daily life. We encourage you to participate in the discussion after the talk.

March 24 **Coffee and Cake at Coordinator’s house. Our member invites us to her home in Guilford. Let’s get to know each other better while chatting and having cake and coffee in a homey environment.

March 31 Japanese program. Today our Japanese members will demonstrate a Japanese tea ceremony and show us how to wear a Kimono.

April 7 Easter! Today we will decorate wooden eggs and transform them into Russian nesting dolls (Matreshka) or cute chicks for your child. During this program we will also learn how we can use chocolate to decorate cakes and more.

April 14 Yoga Class. Please dress comfortably so that you can take part in relaxation and perhaps some asanas (positions).

April 21 **Celebrate spring with Cherry blossoms on Wooster Square. Gather together in the loveliest of Elm City settings; we will treat you to a slice of the famous pizza while you enjoy looking at the blossoms. Children are welcome to join!

April 28 Mother’s Day. Bring your love and inspiration to make a handmade gift for your Mom or any other important women in your life.

May 5 Nearby places to visit during the summer. This is an opportunity to recommended places in the surrounding area that are worth to visit during the summer. Especially our members who are new to the New Haven area would be happy to learn about some of the area’s best kept secrets. If you would like to share one of your favorites please let the coordinators know ahead.

Also we will have a retrospect of our ‘RWW Program and collect suggestions for the 2009/2010 program.

May 12 **Annual Spring Luncheon. Please join us for this delicious ‘RWW tradition in a festive setting. For the first time one of our members will invite us therefore to her house. While feasting on marvelous food we say ‘goodbye’ for the summer and to members who go back to their country. (This is the last meeting before the summer break!)

If you would like to invite a friend or relative to a meeting, please mention it to the coordinator of the particular program, so that we can welcome your guest(s)

May 19 Coordinator’s Meeting. Join us for our last Coordinator’s Meeting in our 2008/2009 season, where we plan for the winter season 2009/2010. If you would like to help develop ‘Round-the-World Women please let one of the coordinators know.

June – August Summer program: Will be announced end of May! 

September 9 First Coordinator’s Meeting of the 2009/2010 season.
