SPRING PROGRAM 2010

Meetings begin with socializing and snacks from 9:30-10:00am. If not otherwise indicated, the program will start promptly at 10am.
If you would like to invite a friend or relative to a meeting, please mention it to the coordinator or the particular program, so that we can welcome your guest(s).

** Indicates a trip away from the meeting place. Transportation will be available from the church promptly at 9:30 A.M.

January 26: Laptop Party!
It’s a laptop party! Never heard of it before? We just made it up. This is your chance to share with others about your country. Bring your laptop, or photo album, and share pictures of famous and favorite places in your country. If you don’t have a laptop, you can also bring a USB stick or CD. Afterwards we’ll have a short workshop on how to use and share photographs on Facebook.

**February 2: A Visit to the Yale University Art Gallery

The Yale University Art Gallery’s permanent collection includes over 185,000 works, from Ancient art to Modern and Contemporary Art. Also there’s a special installation “Jane Davis Doggett: Talking Graphics”. Today we will visit for a self-guided tour. Please meet at the church at 9:30am for carpooling or meet directly in the lobby of the gallery, 1111 Chapel Street at 10:00am. NOTE: Please leave children in the nursery playgroup.

February 9: Valentine’s Day
Today we will talk about romantic stories. Tell us about your wedding and bring wedding pictures! Then we will play a “matching famous lovers” game and make a cute handmade card to take home for your special valentine.

February 16: Celebrate Chinese New Year and Welcome to the Tiger
Let’s celebrate the Year of the Tiger! We will learn about celebrating Chinese New Year and sample some festive food.

**February 23: A Visit to The Yale University Collection of Musical Instruments
We will visit the Yale Collection of Musical Instruments to see their breathtaking collection of rare instruments. Classical music fans can’t miss it! Meet at the church at 9:30 to walk together or form carpools, or go directly to 15 Hillhouse Avenue at 10:00. NOTE: Please leave children in the nursery playgroup.

March 2: Jewelry Program
Ever dream of making your own jewelry? Imagine yourself in a black dress and wearing a colorful necklace. Think about it. It’s so easy and fun. We will teach you how to make necklaces and earings. If you have pliers bring them, and we will provide the other materials.

March 9: Let’s Make Sushi!
You will be able to watch the preparation of Sushi and you may try rolling one by yourself. Afterwards enjoy a delicious sample! Bring a container to take leftovers home.

**March 16: A Visit to the New Haven Historical Society
We will have a guided tour of the museum and learn about the history of New Haven. Meet at the church at 9:30 to walk together or form carpools, or go directly to the museum at 114 Whitney Avenue at 10:00. NOTE: Please leave children in the nursery playgroup.

March 23: Japanese Tea Ceremony
Today our Japanese members will demonstrate a Japanese tea ceremony and show us how to wear a Kimono.

March 30: Easter!
Come to discover how people celebrate Easter and make your own Easter egg.

April 6: Demographic Changes in the US: The New Face of America
A guest speaker will give an interesting lecture on how the population in the United States is changing. What will happen when this country becomes a society of minority majority? How soon will this happen? Come and learn!

April 13: Belly Dancing
Did you know that we have a Turkish member? She is Cahide and we asked her to teach us the famous Belly Dance. So get ready and enjoy it! Don’t forget to wear light and comfortable clothes.

**April 20: Cherry blossoms on Wooster Square
Gather together in the loveliest of Elm City settings; we will treat you to a slice of famous pizza after you enjoyed looking at the blossoms. Meet at the church at 9:30 to form carpools, or go directly to Wooster Square at 10:00 (Detail is to be announced). Children are welcome to join! NOTE: No playgroup at the church.

April 27: What to Do During the Summer
This is an opportunity to recommended places in the surrounding area that are worth to visit during the summer. If you would like to share one of your favorites please let the coordinators know ahead. A guest speaker will talk about beautiful Stony Creeks, too.

**May 4: Mother’s Day Picnic
Today we will spend a morning with children in the park. Let’s enjoy some fun activities and Mother’s day cake together! Please bring a picnic blanket. NOTE: No playgroup at the church.

**May 11: Annual Spring Luncheon
Please join us for this delicious ‘RWW tradition in a festive setting. Our member will kindly invite us to her house. While feasting on marvelous food we say ‘goodbye’ for the summer and to members who go back to their country. (This is the last meeting before the summer break!) NOTE: Change of time: 10:30am– 12:15pm. Bring lunch for your child(ren), clearly marked with their name(s).

May 18: Coordinator’s Meeting.
Join us for our last Coordinator’s Meeting in our 2009/2010 season, where we plan for the winter season 2010/2011. If you would like to help develop ‘Round-the-World Women please let staff members know.
